The Aitolo Community in Central Kwara’ae, Ward 29 Malaita Province, received a significant boost with the delivery of water supply project materials funded by the Government of Japan through their Embassy office in Honiara. This project component falls under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) program.

The Government of Japan has committed to providing grant assistance of up to US$30,005 (approximately SBD$253,700) for the implementation of this project. The funding will be used to establish a new water supply system in the Aitolo Community, ensuring access to clean water for its people. This initiative aims to improve the living environment and public health of the community.

The signing of the project took place on November 10, 2023, at the Embassy of Japan office in Honiara. Ambassador Yoshiaki MIWA and Mr. Lionel Maeliu, the Aitolo Community Representative, were present during the signing.

In an interview with Malaita Issues, Mr. Maeliu expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan through its Embassy in Honiara for their historical and timely support. He emphasized the importance of the project in providing clean and safe water to the community, which will have a positive impact on their daily lives.

Mr. Maeliu also extended his thanks to the former Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Ward 29, Mr. Felix Bosokuru, for his assistance throughout the application process and logistical arrangements that contributed to the success of the project. The collaboration between the community, local leaders, and international partners has been vital in realizing the water supply project in Aitolo.

The delivery of the water supply project materials marks a significant step forward for the Aitolo Community, bringing them closer to having a reliable source of clean water. The project is expected to enhance the overall well-being of the community and contribute to its sustainable development.
