The work to fix and upgrade the 21-kilometer road from Ferakui to Baratalo in West Kwara’ae, Malaita Province, is going well.
This part of the road has been in bad shape since last year, making it hard for people to travel between Auki and nearby places.
The road work is paid for by the World Bank through the Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP) and is managed by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development.
A local company, Trades Transformation Company Limited, is doing the great work.
Concrete slabs have been added to some parts of the road, like both sides of Kwarea Hill, where the road was very bad, causing problems for drivers and passengers.
Malaita News visited the road yesterday and saw that people are now enjoying a smoother ride between Baratalo and Auki.
But people who live further east are still having trouble. They are asking for the road to be fixed quickly so they can also travel to Auki more easily.
The road from Baratalo to Atori and on to Aufasu is still in bad condition.
Malaita News went as far as Foufoumela Village and saw that this part of the road also needs repairs soon.
Right now, only strong vehicles like four-wheel drives can get through this rough section.
