Business operators along South Road in Central Kwara’ae, Malaita province are happy about recent road repairs.

The 42-kilometer emergency road work was funded by the Australian government.

Judith Fono, an office clerk at BNF Cocoa Buyer, said the better road makes their lives easier.

“The road is much nicer now compared to the last few months, which were really bad and caused us a lot of trouble,” Ms. Fono said.

She explained that when the road was very bad, they used boats for business, which was very expensive.

“From our village to Auki, we had to buy five gallons of fuel every day just to get to work,” she said.

Ms. Fono also said that when they had extra cocoa, they had to make more than one trip to collect it from farmers.

“This cost a lot, and sometimes we made no profit, only helping the farmers.”

With the road in better condition now, business is easier.

Ms. Fono thanked the people of Australia for their kindness in funding the repairs.
